And Hello Bret Harte!

Today was Beatrice's first day of kindergarten at Bret Harte Elementary!

The highlight of the morning was Beatrice's new backpack.

For the first day we all met on the playground so we could walk in together and help our kids get settled.  Then the parents crowded around to take pictures and say goodbye.

Beatrice was a little nervous when we left her, though she tried to put on a brave face.

After we dropped off Beatrice on the carpet and said goodbye, we went over to the school library for the "Boo Hoo Breakfast," for parents of new kindergartners.  I already knew a few of the parents from Parks and Recreation classes, a city composting workshop, the community garden program - and one mom runs the party rental business that supplied our waterslide this year!

When we picked up B three hours later she was thrilled, in love with school and eager to go back tomorrow.  She was also wearing a first-day headdress they had made in class, a beehive that says, "I'm a Bret Harte Bee!" on it (the school mascot is a bee).
 

 

As for me, I'm really excited about getting involved with the school: volunteering in the classroom, fundraising, and helping with events and crafts.
