William, Month Five

Happy five months, William!

We spent this month getting to know William better, and he spent this month getting to know us as well as the world at large.

So far I'd say William is intensely focused and systematic in the way he approaches things.  For example, he will carefully touch each finger of his left hand with his right index finger, as though counting them, and then switch and count each finger on his other hand.

He is also determined to crawl.  He's not quite there yet - he can get up on all fours, and he can drag and scoot himself across the floor - but he wants to crawl more than anything, and is often reduced to tears by his inability to do so.

He is a really hard worker.

But he's not all business - William is also affectionate and fun and friendly.  He loves Mommy and Me, as well as the baby music class we now take on Friday mornings.

Also this month, food! William started dabbling in rice cereal, and occasionally peas and pears.

This has been a hard month (and looking back on this blog, it seems month five was a hard month for Arthur, too).  William wants to be held in someone's arms at all times - he doesn't like any kind of seat, swing, bouncer, or stroller - and he is pretty set in his ways when it comes to schedules and routines.  Happily, he seems to be turning a corner and the last week he's been a lot calmer and more relaxed.  I know he'll feel even better when he finally learns to crawl.

Next month, more foods, more friends, more fun!
