Today Arthur was delighted to wake up to balloons decorating his bedroom door.
Yes, he was sleeping in that kilt. |
After dinner we brought out his Frozen-inspired cake and presents from us, Nana and Nani, and Mina and James.
For his birthday we gave Arthur a big wooden castle, an Anna doll, some bath paints, and a fish.
Arthur and Beatrice had both been asking for a pet fish since we last visited the koi pond at Descanso Gardens, so today I bought a crowntail betta for the two of them to share. I let Arthur name it. He named it Arthur.

And there's plenty of birthday excitement still to come, with Beatrice's birthday and their big joint party in June, and visits from my parents and sister starting at the end of the month.
It's common, when kids turn a year older, for their parents to say something like, "I can't believe you're already three!" But with Arthur, I feel more like, "I can't believe you're only three!"
("Three going on thirty," is what his teachers say.)
Arthur, you are so sophisticated and self-aware, so clever and complex, it's hard to remember you're such a little boy. But I'm glad you're only three, because that means I have that many more years left to enjoy your wonderful company.
