We have big plans for this long, narrow room at the back of the house. Like knocking out the back wall and replacing it with a series of French doors that open on to a brick pad outside, plus a built-in bar and barbecue, a pergola, a firepit - and a lot of things. Elaborate, expensive things.
But in the meantime it seemed like a waste to not use the room for anything more than junk storage. So we made some quick, cheap, easy changes to make it nice enough to spend time in right now.

We thoroughly cleaned the whole room, including the wood stove*, and got rid of all the junk that was being stored there. Then we took down the ugly light fixtures and cheap blinds and replaced them with new lights and curtains.

For some reason, the old owners mounted a mismatched set of track lights to the walls and then fluorescent office lights to the ceiling (!) so we got rid of all of that.

Dev also hung a temporary mantle/shelf behind the stove just in time for Christmas. (Eventually, I'd like to make a more substantial mantle out of a piece of unfinished plain-sawn lumber, but for now we used two $6 shelves from IKEA).
We rearranged the furniture and then dug around in the garage for pillows, rugs, throw blankets, and decorative odds and ends like picture frames and candlesticks. The only new piece of furniture we bought was the iron and glass dining set from Craigslist.
These two armchairs were free curb scores - I have plans to reupholster them someday, but for now I just covered them in blankets.
I love this pillow cover so much.
And we mounted the raccoon!
We also unpacked all of our books and board games into the built-in shelves and set up a big basket full of other toys.
Just in time for Christmas...
*We actually had to remove the stove and later reinstall it - it's a long story.
