I let Beatrice choose her own holiday dress at Target and she picked this orange one, which she declared "the most beautiful dress [she had] ever seen" (though Dev objected to it not being a traditional Christmas color). She also asked if I would paint her fingernails and toenails with purple glitter nail polish, so we bought some of that too, and a large purple hair bow, also at B's request.
This was B's first time wearing nail polish and I worried she wouldn't be able to sit still long enough for it to dry, but not only did she sit rigidly still while I applied it, she insisted on holding her hands as though her nails were wet for about two hours thereafter.
"Casual time is over!" she declared triumphantly as I put on her nail polish.
Notice how she's holding her hands.
She also chose her own shoes, coat, and accessories - an orange bracelet, red and purple necklaces, and orange fairy wings.
Beatrice loved every moment of the 90-minute long concert, from the singing to the comedic stage patter, from the goofy elf character to the long-anticipated appearance of Santa. She was even excited by the surprise guest appearance of Julie Andrews despite having no idea who Julie Andrews is.

We sat high up in the balcony and so far from the stage that B had to sit on a pile of coats to prop herself up over the heads of the people in front of her. She was one of only a few young children there but she comported herself very well (except when she saw a man in jeans and said in a scandalized whisper, "That man is wearing casual clothing!")
At one point near the beginning of the concert, Beatrice leaned over to me and whispered, "Mommy, I'm a little scared."
"Why?" I asked her.
"Because I'm so excited."
After the show, I took her around to look at the concert hall's decorations and to get a cupcake from the cafe. All the way home she sang, "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," the last song of the evening.
Someone took this photo of us.
