William, Month Six

William is half a year old!

This was a good month for William: he continued to make progress on sitting and crawling, he tried a lot of new foods, he even went camping

He still can't quite crawl - despite his concerted efforts - but he gets around the house with his own combination of scooting and lunging.  And he can almost sit, though he still needs at least one arm to hold himself steady.  He's even trying to climb things already.  Of course, he can't do it yet, but at his age, I can't believe he's even trying.

As William rounds six months, he is also sleeping better and he's calmer and less fussy when he's awake.  Last night he slept through the night for the first time since he was a newborn, and he is getting better about napping, too.

During Travis's recent visit, he noticed that one reason William gets fussy is that he gets bored easily.  And it's true - William seems to crave a lot of stimulation, and he wants to be an active participant in whatever he's observing.

William enjoys listening to music, taking baths, and being outside.  He also loves the dogs and the chickens - he can watch the chickens for hours as they walk around the yard.

This toy piano from Miller and Ivy is William's favorite toy.
But William's favorite thing of all is spending time with his siblings.  Their antics might be loud or annoying to adults, but they send William into peals of hysterical laughter.

Watching Beatrice dance:

Beatrice and Arthur feed him and entertain him and cheer him up, and Beatrice reads to him, too.  And William starts grinning as soon as he sees their faces.

Next month - crawling? sitting? Cheerios? only time will tell!
