Beatrice's Art

Self-Portrait of Beatrice Wearing a Nightgown with a Smaller Picture of Herself On It

Beatrice has become even more obsessed with art.  She draws every day, often trying to master specific skills like drawing hair, or staircases, or noses. (While watching Frozen recently, she exclaimed, "Wow, the person who made Frozen really knows how to draw noses!")

She also likes to bring her supplies with her to the park or on hikes to draw "en plein air" - and when she doesn't have crayons with her she's been known to just draw in the dirt with a stick.

Beatrice loves going to LACMA (she calls it "the painting museum" to distinguish it from "the dinosaur museum").  I also got her these two great children's art history books (here and here) and she loves to study them and try to imitate the different artists' styles.  She also likes copying illustrations from her books, like the Pigeon from Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.

She mostly draws with crayons or markers, but we've also been letting her try things like watercolors, ink, and clay.  Recently Beatrice also expressed interested in learning how to do animations, so we found this great app that kids can use to do simple animations on a tablet.
