This afternoon I took Beatrice to see
The Croods in the theater.*

Beatrice found certain parts of the movie scary, as I had expected. But near the end, during a scene where the father sacrifices himself and stays behind in a dangerous situation so that his family can escape to safety, I looked over and saw Beatrice had tears streaming down her face. She whispered to me, "I am so sad that the daddy cannot be with his family, my heart is breaking." (Spoiler alert: they're all reunited at the end.)
As cute and sad as it was, I was also impressed that she has the capacity now to be so moved by stories.

This was her third time seeing a movie in a theater, but her first time with me.
