The Haunted Beach

A few weeks ago Beatrice began work on her first five-act play, The Haunted Beach

Title: The Haunted Beach
Author (Playwright): Beatrice Kumar
Setting (Time/Place): At night on the beach, on a full moon
Cast of Characters: Scary, a werewolf

She dictated her synopsis to me:

Act One: A werewolf is waiting for a full moon on the beach.
Act Two: The full moon comes out.  The werewolf turns into a wolf and starts eating people.
Act Three: A policeman comes to arrest the wolf.
Act Four: The werewolf dies while trying to escape.
Act Five: He turns back into a human and a vampire who is immortal.

The End

One of several concept sketches for the set

She wrote the script; planned and created the set, props, and costumes; and rehearsed the climactic death scene.

Trying on her costume: a fur blanket wrap and miniskirt over black leggings and turtleneck
Practicing her werewolf face

She wanted to wait to perform the play until there was a full moon, so tonight was opening night.  (And closing night - she actually began the play by telling us it was very special because it was playing one night only.)

Her debut audience was me, Dev, and our friend James.  (Sadly Arthur missed the play because he got in trouble and had to go to bed early.)  We let her stay up until 8:30pm so it was dark enough and the moon was out.

Reading aloud from the script

Her death scene: she put that pillow down on the ground so she could fall on it.
Curtain call

Beatrice had so much fun that she is already working on her next play, this one to celebrate Balto Appreciation Day, a holiday she made up in honor of Balto the sled dog.
