Watching Beatrice play soccer |
This was a slow month - rather than tackle any new skills, William worked on perfecting the skills he has already acquired, like rolling over, handling objects, and babbling.

A goodnight kiss |
But there were a few new developments. For the first months of his life, William was focused primarily on me and Dev, but this month he really "discovered" his siblings and now he is fascinated by them. They both make him laugh out loud, and he loves to watch them play with a longing look like he wishes he could join them.

I like the look of fear on William's face here. |
Listening to stories before bed:
William has also started to be interested in toys, particularly the soft yellow duck that he got in his Easter basket, and he's started grabbing things and stuffing them into this mouth.

Trying to look casual, like his first time sitting in this seat is no big thing. |

Mommy and Me |
This month he also started his Mommy and Me class through Burbank Parks and Recreation. He's the youngest of the six babies in the class, but he seems to like it, the bubbles in particular.

With Summer and in coordinated outfits |
And he got his passport.
Also this month, he rode the Roomba.
William wakes up in a wonderful mood, full of smiles and coos, just like his siblings did. Unfortunately that doesn't last. While he still sleeps through the night, he's become more clingy and irritable during the day. He wants to be held every minute - and only in real arms, not in a baby carrier like the Ergo - and his evening fussy period has expanded from an hour or two right before bed until today he wanted to be held from 11am-7pm.

Delighted to be awake in the morning |
I remember both Beatrice and Arthur struggled right around the four- or five-month point, too - I think this is a difficult age, as infants transition from newborns who don't do anything except sleep and eat to older babies who play and move and babble and learn to sit and crawl. I keep trying different things to cheer him up, but ultimately I think all you can do is wait it out. At least he's as cute as ever, and every day more aware of and excited by the world around him.

At the zoo, beaming at Paul |
And last but not least, two videos of William just hanging out, being cute:
