Halloween Hand Torches

I had so much fun making these.  I made a mold of my hands using alginate - I had to hold my hand still in a bucket of alginate for about 20 minutes.

Then I poured plaster of Paris into the mold and let it dry.  I had never made a mold before and it was so much fun! Now I want to make molds of everything.

Meanwhile I chopped the bottoms off four tiki torches.  Next time I do this I'll probably find a way to make the torches look less obvious tiki-ish by wrapping the outside in something.

Then Dev drilled out the center of the hands to make the opening wider, I glued the torches into the hands, and we sprayed the whole thing with stone effect spray paint.  (Stone effect spray paint is so great, by the way - we also used it to make the plaque for Clue #1 and it looks amazing.)

I wish I had sprayed the wooden base with stone paint, too, but we ran out of time.  Oh well, next year...
